    Adventures in Grath - Gameplay

Post by Tolr'ax on Tue Jun 26, 2018 6:36 pm

The stale air of the town seeps into the buzzing tavern, a mix of roasting meat, flowing ale, sweet mead can't get rid of the smell of sea water, blood and shit from the streets outside. Blood...how can a whole town smell of blood, who knows, but it lingers in every corner of this town. The stone walls of the tavern hold the warmth given off from the hall's fire, fighting off the cold of the evening. Patrons of the tavern move around the grand hall, barely deserving of the name, wooden tables and chairs scattered through the room, most are full of people. The diversity of Ense is apparent in this hub. Humans predominately make up the faces in the crowd, a few elves mingle through the crowd, clearly not from the island, a halfling jumps on the stool beside the bar and demands an ale. The barkeep pours and serves her. She smiles and flips a coin to him downing the drink before he catches it.

The tavern wench walks around offering drink and lighting the tavern's many candles. A couple of dwarves stop her, their cheeks red with smiles and ale. One grumbles something inaudible and her hand reaches out as quick as lighting and strikes him across the face. He and his friend laugh, she stomps away. The dim light in the room hides the grime on the tables. The corner bursts out with the laughter of gnomes and a few humans.
The barkeep taps a new keg and the fresh ale's smell permeates through the room.

The door opens wide and a tall human man comes in, his clothes are fine and stand out in this town, anyone can see that this man's trade is flesh. He eyes the room looking for new girls for his brothel, a girl follows him in service, she is wearing little more than rags, and her face is tattooed marking her as a slave for life. The couple sit down and the tavern wench brings them ale, they are familiar to her.

Only a few patrons sit isolated from others.

(Tell me where you are and what you are doing and give me some action, you are strangers, so you don't have to sit near each other)

I sit next to the fire pit at small table, my winter blanket facing the fire in my back to warm it and myself from the bitter cold. I down a glass of ale and let the foam fill my mustache, masking the stench around me. It's been a hard day of mining, blood on my sleeve from helping a lad who found the wrong end of a pick..he didn't make it. I stand up and make my way to the bar. "Oi another pint to set me off will ye." I belch to the bartender.

The bartender sends a pint of ale over to you. The nice white head bubbling over. You can smell the hops as the tavern wench brings it closer.

Over the bustle of the tavern, you hear the clear sound of a scream from the street...then multiple screams. The rumble of several feet running away from the sea. There is something going on here...something that leaves a pit deep in your stomach.

The Flesh Trader also hears the commotion and gets up. He moves towards the door, seeming to be trying to get a look outside.

I sit at the farthest long table corner clostest to the door back to the wall to be able to see the whole tavern at once.

I sip my mead to blend in with crowd, watching over every movement in the bar. I see the dwarf order another pint. Seems like his day was long, only wanting to wash it away in the tasteful sweet ale.

I notice the tall man with the lady and think that this might be the man I have been waiting for.

I hear the screams come from the outside and feel something sinister is coming, but not quite what I am looking for. I patiently wait to see the how this man reacts to the view on the outside.

The Flesh Trader and his slave girl get to the front door, reaching for the handle to open it. Suddenly the door smashes open and the Flesh Trader stumbles backwards.
He turns to run and a spearhead springs out from the front of his chest accompanied by a spray of blood leaving a speckle of red across the slave girl's face.

She falls back out of fright. All eyes are glued to the door, trying to see who is the owner of this spear.

Some of the tavern patrons have jumped up with weapons drawn and ready to defend themselves against the murderer.

Delrun - you see a tall figure at the end of the spear,  but cannot make out any details.

Zylo - you cannot see past the other patrons. Your nostrils fill with the scent of fresh blood, making your mouth water slightly.

I stay silent, standing up I grab the drink from the wench and push her to go to the kitchen. I gulp my drink and put a hand on my shield, yet keeping concealed under my blanket, and observe the situation.

I stand still, sipping my mead closely watching the commotion. Blood has been spilt. The smell permeates the air and fills my nostrils. I am unmoving to the temptation.

Zylo - you focus your eyes on the figure, you make out that it is a male humanoid, tall and muscular, no other details can be seen from where you are. You see the flesh trader fall to his knees.

Delrun - you see the flesh trader fall to his knees and let out a gasp and blood flies from his mouth.

Both - you see the slave girl grab at the flesh trader's robes, you see her pull her hand away from him and she raises it high in the air. A glimmer of what can only be a blade shines in the dim room. She forces it down into the Flesh Trader's neck, both of you hear his breath rattle and fade.
The other patrons start rustling in their spots pulling out weapons and getting ready for a fight.

Delrun, you see two more figures slip inside and move towards the north and south side of the tavern.

Zylo, you hear their footsteps patter in, but again, the other patrons block your view.

I notice the man fall to his needs and assume he was nothing but the low life he was and got what he deserved. I resume what I am doing and drinking my mead. I however do not look away from the commotion at the door. I am ready myself for what is about to happen.

I pan to the dwarf as he yells his question and listen and wait for the person who killed the Trader to speak.

You both see the people better, the one holding the spear is a half orc with a tattooed face. A slave. Wearing rags and little else.
The one who went to the north side is a human woman, brawny from years of labor, tattoed face as well.
South is another half orc, tattooed face as well, but smaller in build. The human woman is holding a club. She runs towards another well dressed man holding a dagger, she brings the club down and collapses his skull.
The smaller half orc brandishes a hand axe and swings it at one of the two lecherous dwarves, sinking it deep into his arm. He lets out a deep scream. His friend yells "aye what the fark!" And flips over the table as he goes for his hammer.

The larger half orc pulls the spear from the man's back and hugs the woman, whispers in her ear, and then they both flee the tavern.

I shake my head at the nonsense that has occurred but I look at the faces of these strange characters and notice they all had tattoos on there faces. I observe the tattoos for a more detailed look.

*What did the tattoos look like? Were they all the same?

Zylo - you notice that the tattoos of the two half orcs and the woman still in the tavern are similar if not the same. You realize that they are probably from the same master.

Delrun - Your ax flies through the air spinning like a saw blade. The ax sinks deeply into the wounded dwarf's head killing him instantly. Looks like the ale has hindered your aim Wink (but for real the roll was just bad lol. I gave you advantage for the surprise attack and you got a 4 and 3 lol...oh well)

    Fight Order:
    1. Delrun
    2. Half Orc

As the fight breaks out, many of the patrons run out of the tavern, others run to the kitchen or jump behind the bar and ready to defend themselves. 5 other patrons stay at the ready to attack in the main hall.

I chuckle at the splendid sight of the dwarf's action. Killing one of his own was something I did not expect. I lean forward on the table continuing to sip my drink as the show continues on.

I think to myself if I notice anything about the tattoos, if I recall it or recognize it?

(Im going to roll for you, but I will honor your roll this time. Just tell me what action or check you want to make)

You recall that slaves are tattooed, especially being a former slave yourself you know that the face tattoo is the most degrading markings, usually branding them labor slaves, such as miners or field workers, these are from the island and you have seen similar markings around town during your stay, but do not know more than that.

Zylo - as you enjoy the scene, you notice that the halfling woman has made her way under the table. She whispers "looks like a slave revolt, this won't be good for business"

"Agh! Hogenfargleshite!!" I shout in anger of my lack of aim. I ready my war pick and shield, and charge the half-orc as my weapon swings for his chest!

Delrun - you close the gap and your pick drives deep into the half orc's shoulder. He lets out a yell and slashes at you with his ax. The very tip of his ax rakes across your cheek, your thick beard keeps most of the damage off of you but you feel a sting. (You take 2 dmg)

Across the room, the human woman swings her club at another of the patrons breaking his arm and smashing in his face, he falls dead. She notices her ally in trouble and runs towards Delrun, she is about 10 ft away from you now.

Zylo - the halfling woman smiles up at you "you wanna buy potions from me?" She laughs. "I ain't got nothing to do with this! I run the alchemy shop down the road." She lingers for a second and looks out the window. "Oh shite, there's a fire outside, looks big. Hopefully my shop is alright.

About that time the window on the north side of the door breaks in and a body flies through. Headless, wearing fine clothing...soaked in blood.

You charge into the woman shield first, but as you turn and run the half orc sees his opportunity and swings his ax at you, but just misses. You ram your shield into the woman and she falls to the ground.

The half orc chases after you and swings again, but his wound hinders his swing and he falls short.

The woman gets up off the ground and swings her club at your head but your shield work is too quick and the wooden club just bounces off.
